• Seasons

Creative Pre-K offers seasonal volumes—Fall, Winter, and Spring—filled with activities that foster curiosity and imagination. This allows children to enjoy a summer free for play.

  • Themes

Each season offers age appropriate themes for parents and teachers to explore with their little learners. These themes are listed below with descriptions. Scroll down to see them!

  • Learning Environments

Each theme consists of 5 content areas: Circle Time Ideas, Messy Table Activities, Cut & Color Table, Creative Art, and Outdoor Games and Activities. It’s always a great day with Creative Pre-K!

Circle Time Ideas

You’ll learn original songs, finger-plays, unique games, story suggestions and child centered activities that relate to the weekly themes. Circle Time is the time of day when we “explore” stories, “experience” songs, ask questions about the world we live in and act silly.

Messy Table Fun

Every school should have a Messy Table. At the messy table, we smoosh shaving cream between our fingers. We mix colors and experiment with different textures. We blow milk bubbles and put our hands to work experiencing the world. The possibilities are endless at the Messy Table.

Cut & Color Table

Preschoolers are pre- readers and pre- writers. Creative Pre- K will provide you with daily activities that give preschoolers the skills they will need “before” they learn to read and write. These skills strengthen small muscles, reinforce left to right eye movement, and build language skills. The Cut & Color Table gives the pre-schoolers the confidence they will need to embark upon their next, great adventure; kindergarten.

Creative Art

The creative art projects in Creative Pre- K encourage self expression. Give a child a paint brush and you will see his creativity blossom. Give a child collage materials and some glue and you will see his unique spirit unleashed. But, give a child a worksheet and remind him to stay between the lines and you will see a child with stifled creativity who would rather watch television. Our projects are open ended, creative and fun!

Outside Games and Activities

Oh! How wonderful it would be to have child-like energy again! Every preschool program should have a balance between outside free play and structured movement activities. Creative Pre- K encourages outside, dramatic play as well as movement with a purpose.

I’m Me! Fantastic!

Children are “Sense- sa - tional!!” Every day, we experience our world through our five senses. We touch, taste, smell, hear and see all that is in our world. Take the children on a SENSATIONAL journey exploring their five senses!

Leaves are Falling

There are changes occurring all around us. The leaves are changing color, the air is getting cooler, and school has begun. How wonderful it is in the fall! Trees, butterflies, apples, squirrels, and fall colors are explored.

Things that go bump in the night

Halloween can be a scary time for little ones. The activities in this theme turn a potentially scary time into a fun time. We’ll explore fun things to do in the dark, pumpkins, bats and cats, friendly ghosts, and spiders.

A Rainbow of colors

There are colors all around us! The activities in this theme will encourage children to identify colors, mix colors to create new colors, use paints to explore tints and shades and create colorful works of art.

Community Helpers

Most of us live in a community setting. Every community has people who offer goods and services to the people in the community. In this theme, we will explore healthcare professionals, postal workers, law enforcement, and firefighters. We will even talk about ways we can all be community helpers in our own neighborhoods.

Old MacDonald had a farm

Many children have experienced a visit to a farm. But some children have never been out of the city.  The activities in this theme will explore cows, pigs, chickens, eggs, horses, and gardening.

An Adventure in Space

Most children love looking up in the sky and dreaming about space. This space theme will engage the children in activities that explore the moon, stars, and planets. We might even pretend that aliens exist and go on an adventure into space.

In the Jungle

Over half the world’s species of animals live in the jungle or rainforest. This theme will look at just a few of them. Snakes, jungle bugs, monkeys, and birds are explored, and the week ends with a jungle party palooza.

Dinosaur Dynasty

Preschool aged children adore dinosaur exploration. We will talk about fossils, dinosaur species, herbivores, carnivores, baby dinosaurs, and paleontologists. Mostly, we will have fun playing with dinosaurs with our friends.

Teddy Bear Bonanza

Most young children have a special stuffed animal that means a lot to them. It will be extra special to be able to bring a special Teddy bear to school. We will have a teddy bear picnic, a pajama party, teddy bear dancing and all kinds of teddy bear activities.

Winter Themes

Eric Carle Extravaganza

Erica Carle! Who is he? Eric Carle is the author of over 70 books for young children. We will spend this week learning more about his style of writing and the amazing artwork he created.

Transportation

Small children are often obsessed with trains, planes and automobiles. This theme will explore all the different ways we can get from here to there.

What’s Cooking?

There is nothing more “multi-sensory” than cooking with kids. They will learn math, science and language arts through cooking. The classroom will transform into four different restaurants that will excite their culinary curiosities.

Brrrr! It’s Cold

In the United States, Winter extends from December 22nd to March 20th. The days are shorter, and the stars are more easily seen in the sky. Snow, weather, hibernation and winter activities will be explored with this theme.

Shapes and Sizes

This theme will introduce the children to basic shapes through hands-on experiences and activities. Circles, squares, triangles, rectangles, stars and ovals in all different sizes will dance around the classroom.

Island Aloha

Hawaiian culture is different than any other. Native Hawaiians believe that they are connected to the land, so they hold the land in high reverence. They do this through their many traditions, dances, music, arts, language and cultural festivals. This theme will immerse the children in all things Hawaiian.

Reptiles

Snakes, lizards, turtles, chameleons, alligators, and crocodiles will slither around the classroom during our reptile theme. We will learn what makes an animal a reptile and explore their habitats, food sources, and behaviors.

Creepy Crawlers

During our creepy crawler theme the children will learn about worms, spiders, ants, grasshoppers, and flies. This theme will engage the children with songs, movement rhymes, creepy crawler stories, and buggy activities as they explore the insects that live all around us.

Kings, Queen, Castles, and Things

Medieval times will come alive as the children experience life during the times of kings, queens, castles and other medieval things. This theme will merge reality with fantasy as we have fun with dragons and talk about the differences between then and now.

Mother Goose

This theme will immerse the children in nursery rhymes old and new. The teacher will transform herself into Mother Goose and engage the children in nursery rhymes, songs, stories and creative art projects that make nursery rhymes come alive.

Let’s Go Camping

There are many ways to camp. Some people camp in rustic tents with nothing but sleeping bags and a lantern, while others bring their recreational vehicles with them and live better than they do at home. Many children have been camping but many have not. This theme will bring camping into the classroom.

Nutrition and Manner

Teaching small children to have good manners is most effective if you begin early. Covering their mouths when they sneeze, saying please and thank you, and chewing with their mouths closed are skills we model and teach through this theme. Join forces with mom and dad to extend the lessons into the home.

Spring Themes

At the Zoo

The zoo is a place where we can view wild animals safely. During this theme we will use the zoo theme to explore animal movements, baby animals, nighttime at the zoo, and penguin behavior.

Birds of a Feather

Birds are an everyday experience for children. All children have to do is look up to see the many species of birds all around us. This theme will explore eggs, feathers, nests, and bird behavior while engaging the children in fun movement activities, bird stories, and creative art projects.

Spring

Spring is a time of new beginnings and an outburst of color. The grass is turning green, the flowers are blooming, and the weather is changing. This theme will explore spring colors, hibernation and migration, spring gardening and the new life that is born in the springtime.

Five Terrific Tales

Sometimes it’s fun to read a story quickly just for the fun of it. But other times it’s important to look more closely at a story and imagine what it would be like to be one of the characters. This week, we will look at five of my favorite stories. The activities will encourage the children to look at the stories in a different way.

In a People House

Children live in a variety of “people” houses. Some live in apartments, while others live in mansions. But all “people” houses have things in common. This theme will explore all the different parts of the places where we live our lives.

In All Kinds of Weather

What is weather? All we have to do is walk outside and we experience the changing nature of the weather. It might be foggy in the morning and then sunny in the afternoon. The rain might pour overnight, and then the clouds part in the morning to reveal a blue sky. This theme will explore wind, rain, thunder, lightning, and snow through science, art and stories.

Under the Sea

The ocean is such a beautiful, mysterious place. It can be dark and ominous or bright and colorful. This theme explores the mysteries of the deep as we learn about sand, waves, whales, fish and other sea creatures.

Special Day Celebrations

This theme includes five daily experiences to use during some typical special day celebrations. Valentine’s Day, Mother/Father’s Day, and Saint Patrick’s Day will be much more fun using the activities included in this theme.

Folktales

Folktales are stories handed down from generation to generation. They are a part of our culture and a part of our childhoods.  Little Red Riding Hood, The Three Little Pigs, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, The Three Billy Goats Gruff and Hansel and Gretel are explored through drama, music and art.

Five Spectacular Stories
